CHANDLER, Ariz. – A third place at the final race of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) at Firebird Raceway earned Brian Deegan his second-consecutive Pro 2 Unlimited Championship.  The No. 38 Lucas Oil/Metal Mulisha/Rockstar F-150 SVT Raptor earned its eighth podium this season, including four wins this season in Pro 2 Unlimited.

“Two seasons in a row and it’s great to get it back in the premiere class in off road racing,” said Deegan. “What a battle, it really came down to the wire. I pretty much had to finish in the top-five and started the race with Marty Hart and Rob MacCachren next to me, my championship competitors, so it ended up just us three of us battling.”

The back-to-back Pro 2 Unlimited Champion won the LOORRS premier class for the first time in 2011 as a rookie, making a statement with a 50-point margin over his closest competitor. The only pressure was the pressure Deegan put on himself as he headed to the final event knowing he only needed a solid finish in the race to reclaim the championship.

“I knew I just had to keep it clean but part of me really wanted to win the race,” said Deegan. “I kept putting my nose up there with Hart and thought we would end up taking each other out so I just had to be smart. I put my ego aside, knew I had to just finish the race and did what I had to do to win the championship. All the hard work this year came down to this moment so I’m glad I played it smart and can walk away with another championship."

Deegan took Firebird Raceway by storm at the final LOORRS event, not only clinching the Pro 2 Unlimited Championship but by taking the win in the Pro Lite class as well. The win marked Deegan’s fourth victory in the class and seventh podium. Deegan drove a Ford truck to a combined 15 podiums and earned eight first place finishes this season.

“When it’s all said and done, we stepped up which is a major testament to my team and sponsors for making it happen,” said Deegan. “Another off-road truck racing championship with Ford Motor Company and I’m so glad to be a part of it. It’s been a dream in my life to race for a factory team like Ford and so I just had to represent. When you get the opportunity the best thing is have success and that’s what I feel like I work hard to accomplish.”

Although the Pro 2 Championship is clinched in LOORRS, Deegan’s 2012 campaign is not quite finished. He will head to Las Vegas to compete in the final Global Rallycross Championship event of the year.

The race takes place in conjunction with SEMA, with Deegan battling Fiesta teammate Tanner Foust in a chase for the Driver Championship on Tuesday, October 30. 2012.
