Ford EcoBoost Colors Adorn Chinese Touring Cars At Ordos
AUG. 17, 2012
After a long six week break, the China Touring Car Championship springs back into action this weekend with the second consecutive Ordos race in Inner Mongolia for the fifth round of the 2012 season.
After four rounds of competition, Changan Ford Racing Team continues to occupy the top spot of the Manufacturer Championship with 86 points, 30 points ahead of the VW Team. Tengyi Jiang also holds a four-point lead in the Driver Championship standings.
But as a result of the weight compensation system, this fifth round will be an extremely difficult race for the team after winning three team championships out of four rounds. After winning the team title in Round 4, another 60kg will be added to all the cars of the team, but since Tengyi Jiang was already running maximum weight of 1,280kg in Round 4, all other cars in the championship will be reduced 60kg instead. In essence, Jiang Tengyi’s car weight will be between 105 to 280kg heavier than other competitors.
John Ling, Team Manager, said, “Facing this situation, we are trying to implement some upgrades to the car in order to compensate for this huge weight disadvantage. Also, considering we have never won in GIC (R6) and are still having difficulties solving the mystery of GIC, our mission is to go out and try our best to gain as many points as possible for this race so we can have more buffer before heading to GIC. ”
The Ordos International event will be the climax to Ford’s “EcoBoost Takeover” in the month of August. The EcoBoost livery has appeared in series such as FIA World Rally, NASCAR, National Hot Rod Association and Best in the Desert Racing Association to promote Ford’s latest engine technology that offers increased fuel efficiency and decreased emissions without sacrificing power.
