WATCH: Gittin Takes Round 5 Title, Championship Lead
JULY 22, 2012
MONROE, Wash. – Vaughn Gittin Jr. drove his Ford Mustang to the top of the podium, claiming first place and dominating the Formula Drift Round 5: Throwdown competition for his second-consecutive win of the season. Gittin battled in his No. 25 Monster Energy Falken Tire Mustang through five heats with praises of fierce drifting and perfect course execution at Evergreen Speedway.
“Oh man is that Ford Mustang is absolutely amazing, said Gittin. "It was on rails tonight and did everything I asked it to do and yeah, this right here [trophy] is in our hand."
The victory also valuts Gittin into the Formula Drift championship overall lead, a 7.5-point edge over second place and a 15-point lead over Mustang teammate, Justin Pawlak.
“I am so pumped to have this first place trophy in my hands and we just took the points lead in Formula Drift so my mind is blown right now.”
Gittin’s Mustang coined the power machine in Seattle with props going to flawless approach in his battles and a rapid comeback from an underwhelming start to the season.
“This right here is a testament to never giving up. We had a rough start to the season, had a turning point last round when we won Jersey and just backed it up here in Seattle.
“I’m one lucky dude to have the team and the partners that I have behind me supporting me through thick and thin”
Gittin and Pawlak qualified their Mustangs 1-2 to open Round 5. Pawlak was eliminated in the Top-32 heat, making the mistake of taking 2-wheels off and ultimately losing the battle. Pawlak had held the points lead after each previous round this season after opening the season with a pair of victories.
Formula Drift will return to action August 24-25 in Las Vegas, NV for Round 6 – After Dark.
