Ford Racing Press Release
The 2014 Formula DRIFT season kicks off this weekend in “The Streets of Long Beach.” And as history serves -- see Justin Pawlak’s incident from a year ago below -- it’s always an interesting battle in those streets with the tight turns, walls and fast speeds.
Vaughn Gittin Jr.’s 2013 season was plagued with multiple competition protests, a severe mechanical penalty and just outright bad luck. However, he managed to persevere and finish the season in fifth place. He is looking to take the podium more often this year as he seeks out his second championship.
"I am really pumped for the 2014 Formula Drift season in addition to the rest of our global initiatives,” said Gittin. “ We are showing up with the absolute best Ford Mustang RTR we have ever competed with. From the looks of things, our competitors have also been working very hard during the off season. We are looking forward to some crazy battles on the track and standing up on the top step podium as often as we deserve it."
Pawlak had a rough start to the season in 2013 at Long Beach where he hit the wall during qualifying and was near close to losing his chance to qualify for the competition. After hard work from his Falken Tire team, he managed to compete in that event and finished the season just behind Gittin in sixth place overall.
“I'm really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel of the 2014 Falken Tire Ford Mustang,” Pawlak said. “We made some mistakes last year, but walked away learning a lot about what we need to do to be successful this season. I can't wait to get started on what has the potential to be an amazing 2014 Formula Drift season.”
