Swedish resident, Patrik Sandell, started his motorsports career when he first tried rallycross at 16. One year later, Sandell drove stage rally for the first time and was immediately hooked on the speed, the adrenaline rush and the professionalism in the sport. From 2003 through 2012, Sandell drove for various teams and competed in multiple series to tally a combined five championships.
In 2013, Sandell campaigned a full Global Rallycross Championship season on the OlsbergsMSE factory team driving a Ford Fiesta ST. Carrying in his reputation as a proper stage rally driver, Sandell immediately turned heads in rallycross after finishing third and achieving his first X Games medal at the first Global Rallycross round in Brazil. The Swedish drivers’ consistent skill and car control earned Sandell two podium finishes and sixth overall in the 2013 championship.
- In 2003 Sandell had a run in the National Rally Championship in Sweden in a GRN Seat Ibiza. After the first few years of learning, Sandell won the 2004 Junior Championships in rally, and in 2005 won the Swedish Rally Championship.
- Sandell continued competing in the Junior World Cup over the 2007 and 2008 race seasons earning many wins but also shifted into the FIA World Rally Championship-2 (SWRC or formerly known as Super 2000 World Rally Championship) series in 2008 to become the first in the world to run a S200.
- In 2009 Sandell committed to two season with the Red Bull World Rally Team and won the FIA WRC Cup and finished 2nd in the SWRC 2011, only seconds away from first place.

Sandell drove for the Sweden World Rally Team in Mini during the 2012 World Rally Championship until Mini cancelled its efforts in the series.
