- WATCH: Brazil vs. Mexico (World Cup)
3 p.m. ET, June 17
Who will it be -- Brazil or Mexico? Two of Ford Racing’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship drivers have put their pride on the line in a bet on today’s World Cup matchup between their home countries.
Ozz Negri and Memo Rojas, who drive for opposing teams under the Ford EcoBoost banner in the Prototype category of the TUDOR series, have decided the loser of tonight’s match has to wear the winner’s home country World Cup jersey in Watkins Glen next week.
“I’m nervous, because it’s the World Cup, and you don’t know what’s going to happen. You never know,” said Negri, who tweeted a photo of the jersey, socks and hats Rojas will wear if he loses. “Everyone loves Brazil but watching the other teams playing, there are a lot of really good games out there.
Negri has been following the World Cup on both a Brazilian network he has at home in the U.S. and on Univision.
“Both sides know this is going to be one of the toughest games,” Negri said.
Negri’s Brazil will enjoy the hometown advantage but a win would be a huge momentum gain for Rojas’ Mexico.
“I'm so excited about today's match,” Rojas said. “Soccer is the biggest sport in my country -- racing is second obviously -- and everyone here literally stops to watch the game. It's a very important game for Mexico and Brazil as this match may define who qualifies for the next round. I really want Mexico to win, as Brazil is one of the best teams in the world, and they are playing home, so if Mexico wins it would mean lots to us.”
Negri and Rojas will compete in Watkins Glen, NY in the sixth race of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series June 27-29.
