The newest addition to the Ford Racing family was announced last December when Richard Petty Motorsports announced that Dakoda Armstrong would drive its NASCAR Nationwide Series No. 43 Mustang full-time in 2014.
This continues a natural progression for Armstrong, who ran the full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season for the first time in his still-young career last season, finished 12th in the final point standings for owner Stacy Compton after posting three top-10 finishes, including a season-best fifth at Talladega in October.
Armstrong replaces Michael Annett, who moved to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series after the 2013 season, but Phillipe Lopez will return as crew chief. This will be Armstrong’s first year running all of the NASCAR Nationwide Series events. He enters 2014 with seven career starts, including six last year when he drove five races for Richard Childress and one for Mark Smith.
- The 22-year-old from New Castle, Ind., started racing in the ARCA series at the age of 17. After competing in seven races that rookie season, he ran the full 20-race schedule in 2010 and registered two victories (Talladega and Salem) en route to a seventh-place finish in the point standings.
- Armstrong made his NNS debut in 2011 at Ford Championship Weekend when he piloted an entry for owner Steve Turner and finished 25th in the Ford EcoBoost 300.
