Now that he has one full season of NASCAR Xfinity Series racing under his belt, Dakoda Armstrong is poised to make a splash in 2015, which will be his second driving the No. 43 Mustang of Richard Petty Motorsports.
Armstrong, a 23-year-old native of New Castle, IN, competed in all 33 Xfinity events last season and finished 13th in the final point standings after posting three top-10 performances. His career-best effort came in the fall race at Richmond when he finished seventh, but the highlight of 2014 was undoubtedly taking the top qualifying spot at Daytona in July for his first career pole.
This will mark the third full season competing in one of NASCAR’s top three series. He ran a full NASCAR Camping World Truck Series campaign in 2013 and finished 12th in the final point standings for owner Stacy Compton.
Armstrong, who registered all three of his top 10s last year in the final 12 races, will have one change from last season as Frankie Kerr takes over the crew chief duties. But expectations have been raised after Armstrong finished the 2014 season strong and completed 97 percent of the laps.
· Armstrong started racing in the ARCA series at the age of 17. After competing in seven races that rookie season, he ran the full 20-race schedule in 2010 and registered two victories (Talladega and Salem) en route to a seventh-place finish in the point standings.
· Armstrong made his NIS debut in 2011 at Ford Championship Weekend when he piloted an entry for owner Steve Turner and finished 25th in the Ford EcoBoost 300.
· Prior to joining RPM, Armstrong competed in six NXS events in 2013 with five of those coming at Richard Childress Racing and one with Mark Smith.
