Marcos Ambrose has already achieved his first goal since coming to NASCAR from his native Australia seven years ago and that was to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.  He did that for the first time in 2011 when he captured the annual road course race at Watkins Glen International, and repeated that triumph last year in one of the most thrilling finishes of the season when he passed Brad Keselowski on an oiled down track during the final lap.  Recognized as one of the best road course racers on the circuit, Ambrose’s next goal is to win on an oval, a type of racing he had never done until coming to America, and make the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.

Ambrose, who will be in his third season driving for Richard Petty Motorsports, has had an opportunity to make the 12-driver playoff field each of the last two years heading into the final cutoff race at Richmond. He’s hoping the third time will be a charm as Ambrose and crew chief Drew Blickensderfer embark on their first full season together.  This will mark the sixth year for Ambrose at NASCAR’s top level after moving from Australia, where he won back-to-back V8 Supercar Series championships in 2003 and 2004.

Known as the ‘Devil Racer’ because he grew up in Tasmania, Ambrose has also competed in the open-wheel Formula One-type cars, winning the 1999 British Formula Ford championship.

* Ambrose, who was sponsored by Ford in Australia, signed to compete in the V8 Supercar Series in 2001.

* He resides in North Carolina during the season, but travels back to Australia when time permits. He and his wife, Sonja, have two children -- Tabitha and Adelaide.

Marcos Ambrose is one of 11 men in NASCAR history who has driven at least one race for the Wood Brothers and Richard Petty (Petty Enterprises and RPM) -- two of the most iconic teams in the sport. He made his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut driving the No. 21 Ford of the Wood Brothers in 2008 at Infineon Raceway and competed in five overall events for the team.
